dental cleanings

A building is only as good as its foundation. The same goes for your teeth: you need healthy bone and gums for your teeth to remain in good condition. This is best done by preventative measures, such as great brushing and flossing habits, and quality bi-annual check-ups and cleanings.

We are invested in helping you achieve and maintain optimum oral health. Regular visits allow us to diagnose problems early, monitor areas of decay, and remove plaque that has built up over time.

Each person has individual needs or concerns; your dental cleanings are also an opportunity for you to discuss these with us.

How Do I Know if I Need a Cleaning?

While dentists recommend teeth cleaning about every six months, you may need an extra cleaning between routine appointments.

We suggest scheduling an appointment if you encounter any of the following symptoms:

  • Toothaches

  • Loose teeth

  • Receding gums

  • Bad breath

  • Bleeding gums

Best Practices: At-Home Care

We want to help you keep your teeth in top shape all year-round - this often means maintaining proper teeth and gum cleaning techniques at home:

  • Be sure to brush and floss at least twice a day and after meals, if possible.

  • An anti-bacterial mouthwash prevents plaque buildup and future infections.

  • Replace your toothbrush every two months, and make sure it's soft-bristled.

Don't skip regular cleanings!  These appointments give the Life Point Dental team a chance to identify problems early, so we can take steps to prevent further damage - and save you money.

What to Expect at Your Cleaning

We prioritize each patient's comfort and knowledge during procedures, even cleanings, to reduce dental anxiety. Our dedicated staff will continuously check on your comfort during these steps:

  • Plaque removal: We will begin by removing all plaque built up on your teeth. You might hear a scraping noise during this step.

  • Toothpaste application: Next, we polish your teeth with a special toothpaste meant to remove bacteria.

  • Fluoride treatment: As your appointment comes to a close, we’ll apply fluoride to your teeth, which helps to protect your enamel and minimize your risk of cavities.

  • Preventative measures: During your visit, we  will look for other signs of dental problems and may make recommendations for any cavity fillings or dental crowns.
